I've always enjoyed collecting vintage embroidered linens with the sweet images of cartoon animals, flowerbaskets, southernbelles and bluebirds, so when I saw this awesome book Embroidered Effects, I was inspired! I decided to try my hand at embroidery. Reading the book took the intimidation factor away. The author of this book has an amazing website that offers fun projects and walks you through embroidery step by step.

http://www.mytransfers.blogspot.com/ I found a cute little teacup to start with. All I needed to get started was an embroidery hoop, embroidery thread, a needle, a transfer pencil, some cotton fabric and an image. First, I traced over the image with the pencil and transferred it onto the fabric using an iron. Then, I put the fabric in the hoop and started to embroider. I looked at some of my vintage embroidery to see how the stitches were done, but in the end decided to go with the split stitch suggested by Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching. I had so much fun and can't wait to do more. My next project will be some cute little bluebirds.
